There are many dangers of having a high estrogen environment in the body whether you are male or female.  Unfortunately, many of us are not aware of just how often we are exposed to estrogen mimickers and even worse xenoestrogens.  Xenoestrogens are novel, industrially made compounds that have estrogenic effects and differ chemically from Archi estrogens (ancient, naturally occurring) which are produced by living organisms.  Increased levels of these compounds can most commonly lead to breast cancer and infertility, but also:

PMS

Migraines

Mood Swings

Cramps

Uterine Fibroids

Depression

Unexplained Weight Gain

Fatigue

Osteoporosis

Insomnia

Allergies

Memory Loss

Acne

Hot Flashes

Thinning Hair

Irregular Periods

Breast Tenderness

Miscarriage

Low Sex Drive

High Blood Pressure

Facial Hair

Inflammation

Decreased Thyroid function

Xenoestrogens can be much more potent than natural estrogen produced in our body and are found in insecticides (particularly DDT), pesticides, plastics, food preservatives, processed food and pharmaceuticals just to name a few.

I once read a study on golfers that ranked and compared the estrogen levels before and after the golfing season. It revealed that just having been around all of the insecticides and pesticides for the season, their levels increased dramatically. Another case in which xenoestrogens have been found is in soy.  Although soy has some healthy benefit when it is truly organic, is most often genetically modified and similar to the other compounds acts to increase estrogen in the body.

An obvious solution is to try and avoid these chemicals as much as possible, however some are not easily done.   We have to take steps to reduce the estrogenic effects in our body.  An important supplement that I have been researching in called DIM or diindolymethane, which is found in cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli and cauliflower has shown some excellent benefit to reduces the estrogen to testosterone ratio in the body.  It has also been shown to assist in fat burning as well as building lean muscle mass.  There endless research out there to support the negative impact these compounds have to our bodies and I encourage everyone to learn more about it.
