Some of you may have caught the report on the news this morning regarding fish oil. There was a representative from the American Heart Association stating that studies have concluded that supplementing with omega 3 fats such as fish oil show no benefit to heart health. Strangely, they do recommend eating a diet rich in omega 3 fats such as salmon, some nuts, avocadoes, etc. which are very heart healthy. I’m not certain where the rationale is in this, but countless studies have been done showing just how Healthy fish oil is for the heart and many other aspects of health. Another interesting thing she mentioned on the report was that there is some benefit in taking fish oil for cholesterol problems. I thought it was very odd since the medical community has focused so heavily on cholesterol relating to heart disease, but taking fish oil would not be beneficial for the heart, even though they say cholesterol causes heart problems. One would conclude that if you have cholesterol problems and you could improve them by taking fish oil, then taking fish oil should improve heart health. Bottom line is that taking a good quality fish oil supplement is very healthy for our bodies and I feel is an absolute necessity to everyone’s daily routine.
