Understanding TMJ and How Chiropractic Care Can Help

Today, I want to share a little about TMJ and the disorders that affect it. TMJ stands for the temporomandibular joint — essentially where your jaw connects to your skull.

Many people experience popping or clicking sounds when chewing or clenching their teeth at night. This is often an excellent case for chiropractic care and rarely requires intervention from dentists or orthopedic surgeons. Most of the time, TMJ disorders stem from a subluxation — a misalignment of the vertebrae in the lower neck that causes nerve pressure and loss of function.

Accompanying TMJ issues often include tension in the traps and shoulders, as well as headaches. I have treated patients who previously underwent surgeries, used mouth guards, or took medications with little success.

At our office, we’ve seen great improvements in these cases by focusing on the root cause of the problem rather than just treating the symptoms.

If you or someone you know is struggling with TMJ dysfunction, please let them know we’d be more than happy to help.

Yours in health,

Dr. Brett
